Why I love Thursday nights at 2000trees, by James Scarlett

The Thursday of 2000trees is amazing for me. It just somehow feels special, like you are part of a secret club of Trees fans. It’s the hardcore. The Superfans! Not only do they get the best camping spots, but the atmosphere in the Cave is always electric – there are no other music stages open to distract the attention (we have a comedy tent) so we’re all in it together, ready for the best three days of the year.

For me, it’s also the point where the hard work is pretty much done. You’ll usually find me down the front, among the crowd, watching the bands and drinking a pint or two of cold Cotswold lager (fingers crossed Mark and Bren don’t see this as they are usually still parking cars at this point!).

So yeah, I absolutely love the 2000trees Early Entry night!

The theory behind the line-up is we get bands from last year’s festival to return to Upcote Farm. We choose mostly bands that have been popular with the Trees crowd over the years (we really do listen to what you say on Facebook) and also the odd band that is a favourite of the organisers.

It’s very tricky picking who to book but over the years there have been some amazing sets. Choosing my favourite ever is hard but 2012 really sticks in my mind – Tall Ships and Three Trapped Tigers were incredible that night. And last year, you couldn’t really beat Frank Turner playing the “Love, Ire & Song” album in its entirety – soooo good.

This year looks set to be equally as exciting. Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip headlined the main stage in 2011 so to get them in the Cave this year is going to be wonderful – I know they’ve got some surprises up their sleeves.

And the rest of the line up is a really strong selection of bands that made last year’s Trees so great – Gnarwolves, Johnny Foreigner, Ben Marwood, The Retrospective Soundtrack Players and Oxygen Thief. Plus one more still to be announced…

I, for one, cannot wait.
